Nearly 21,000 Students Killed in Israeli Attacks on Gaza and West Bank Since October 2023

The Palestinian Ministry of Education has reported that nearly 21,000 Palestinian students have been killed in Israeli attacks on the Gaza Strip and the occupied West Bank since October 2023.

In a written statement, the ministry said Israeli attacks targeting Palestinians’ right to education had resulted in the deaths of 20,814 students, along with 1,054 education workers.

In Gaza, the ministry said more than 179 public schools had been destroyed, over 105 UNRWA schools had been bombed and damaged, and more than 63 university buildings had been leveled.

According to the ministry’s figures, 20,480 students have been killed in Gaza, including 1,379 university students, while 31,436 students have been injured, including 3,017 university students. It added that 1,048 education workers had been killed and 4,784 others injured in the enclave.

In the occupied West Bank, the ministry said 167 Palestinian students had been killed, including 128 school students and 39 university students, while more than 1,100 others had been injured.

The ministry also reported that Israeli forces had detained 421 school students and more than 487 university students in the West Bank. It added that six education workers had been killed, 25 injured, and 117 detained as a result of Israeli violations.
