An Israeli drone strike killed an Al Jazeera journalist in Gaza as reports of civilian deaths in Gaza and the West Bank intensified, drawing international concern over civilian protection.

An Israeli drone strike killed Al Jazeera Mubasher correspondent Mohammed Wishah in Gaza City on April 8, according to Al Jazeera. The network said Wishah was targeted while travelling along al-Rashid Street, describing the incident as a “flagrant violation” of international law and part of a pattern of attacks on journalists.

The Gaza Government Media Office reported that at least 260 journalists have been killed since the start of the war in October 2023, a figure that underscores growing risks faced by media workers in the enclave. International press freedom groups, including the Committee to Protect Journalists, have repeatedly raised concerns about the high number of journalist casualties in Gaza, calling for independent investigations.

The killing comes amid continued violence despite a fragile ceasefire. Gaza’s Health Ministry reports that more than 72,000 Palestinians have been killed since October 2023, with hundreds more deaths recorded in recent months.

In a separate incident in the occupied West Bank, a 68-year-old Palestinian woman, Sabriya Shamasneh, died following an Israeli military raid in the town of Jayyous near Qalqilya, according to Palestinian news agency WAFA. Medical sources said she suffered a heart attack during the raid, while family members alleged that physical assault contributed to her collapse. Israeli authorities have not issued a detailed response to the claims.

The incidents reflect a broader pattern of escalating violence in both Gaza and the West Bank. The United Nations and multiple human rights organizations have warned of increasing civilian casualties and repeated raids, urging all parties to adhere to international humanitarian law.
