Construction Begins on New Mosque Set to Become Main Islamic Center in Castellón, Spain
————————————-
Preliminary construction work has begun on a new mosque project in Spain’s Castellón province, a development expected to become the main Islamic center serving the region’s Muslim community.
Initial work is underway in the town of Vinaròs, where a plot of land has been selected in a strategic location near the old highway and adjacent to the municipal warehouse. The location is expected to provide convenient access for residents within the town as well as nearby communities across the Baix Maestrat area.
Recent activity at the site includes the removal of trees, preliminary land preparation, and the start of foundation work using heavy machinery. These steps mark the official launch of the construction phase, which is expected to proceed in several stages over the coming months until the project’s facilities are fully completed.
According to Spanish newspaper El Periódico Mediterráneo, the mosque complex will include a main prayer hall, separate spaces for men and women, classrooms dedicated to Islamic education, and areas for cultural and social activities. Administrative offices will also be part of the facility, allowing the center to function as a comprehensive religious and community hub.
The project comes in response to the growing needs of the Muslim community in Castellón, where existing prayer spaces have become insufficient to accommodate increasing numbers of worshippers, particularly during major Islamic occasions.
Once completed, the new mosque is expected to serve as a significant religious and cultural center for Muslims across the region.
