The United Nations General Assembly has adopted a resolution by an overwhelming majority, with 139 countries voting in favor, underscoring Israel’s obligation to comply with the advisory opinion of the International Court of Justice (ICJ) and to uphold its responsibilities toward the Palestinian people.
The resolution calls for the removal of obstacles to humanitarian assistance and stresses respect for the fundamental rights of Palestinians.
During the session, the General Assembly approved the resolution by a majority vote, urging Israel to adhere to the ICJ’s advisory opinion regarding its obligations in the occupied Palestinian territories.
According to reports by Shia Waves Agency citing Anadolu, the resolution was adopted with the support of 139 countries, while 12 voted against it. It calls on Israel to fulfill its duties and to refrain from restricting the presence and activities of the United Nations and international organizations in Palestine.
As reported by Shafaq News, the resolution—drawing on the ICJ’s advisory opinion and the Geneva Conventions—emphasizes that Israel must allow the unhindered and non-discriminatory delivery of humanitarian assistance, including food, water, medicine, and shelter, to the Palestinian population. It also calls for full and unimpeded operations of the United Nations and agencies such as the UN Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA).
The resolution further stresses that, as a member of the United Nations, Israel is required to cooperate with the organization in good faith and must not obstruct its activities.
Media reports note that the measure reflects heightened international concern over the human rights situation in the Gaza Strip and other occupied territories, and calls for an end to restrictions and impediments on humanitarian aid.
Countries supporting the resolution emphasized that full respect for international law and humanitarian obligations is essential to alleviating the humanitarian crisis facing Palestinians and to advancing justice in the region.
