Deadliest Year for Palestinians Continues Amid Ceasefire Violations and Journalist Killings
————————————–
2025 has emerged as the deadliest and most destructive year for Palestinians, with Israeli attacks continuing despite a ceasefire agreement brokered by former US President Donald Trump. According to reports from Anadolu Agency, Israeli forces have killed at least 367 Palestinians and injured more than 900 since the ceasefire took effect on October 10, 2025.
The Gaza Health Ministry and local rights groups highlight that 2025 alone has seen unprecedented civilian casualties, widespread destruction of homes, and humanitarian crises, surpassing previous years’ tolls. Rights organizations report that children, women, and the elderly have been disproportionately affected, and thousands remain displaced.
The situation escalated further with the killing of Palestinian photojournalist Mahmoud Wadi in an Israeli drone strike in central Khan Yunis on December 2, despite the area not being under Israeli control per the ceasefire. Wadi’s death brings the total number of journalists killed in Gaza by Israeli forces since October 2023 to 257. Colleagues described Wadi as dedicated to humanitarian work, assisting the poor and documenting life in conflict zones.
Palestinians have condemned the attacks, viewing them as deliberate efforts to silence journalists and conceal ongoing violations. International media organizations have repeatedly called for Israel to halt attacks on civilians and press members, but the appeals have been ignored. Hamas maintains full adherence to the ceasefire and urges the United States to pressure Israel into compliance.
The continuing violations underscore the fragility of the ceasefire and highlight the urgent need for renewed international engagement to protect civilians and uphold human rights in Gaza.
