UN Launches Major Operation to Clear 60 Million Tons of Gaza Rubble
…………..
The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) has launched a large-scale operation to remove debris from main roads in Gaza City, aiming to restore access to essential services such as hospitals and schools. Officials estimate that between 55 and 60 million tons of rubble remain across the territory, posing a major logistical challenge.
The first phase focuses on reopening key routes and recycling debris for use in road surfacing and temporary shelters to reduce environmental impact. UN humanitarian chief and the UNDP representative in Palestine visited Al-Jalaa Street in central Gaza to assess progress. The debris removal plan is seen as a crucial step toward restoring daily life and stabilizing conditions for residents in the war-torn enclave.
