Israeli Strikes Kill 41 in Gaza Amid Evacuation Orders and Growing Humanitarian Crisis
……………..
At least 41 people, including 12 civilians seeking aid, have been killed in Israeli airstrikes on Gaza over the past 24 hours, as reported by The Guardian. The strikes coincide with a formal evacuation order for Gaza City residents ahead of a planned Israeli military offensive.
The Israeli military has intensified bombing in Gaza City while urging nearly 1 million residents to move to the southern al-Mawasi area, designated as a “humanitarian zone.” However, skepticism remains high among locals, many of whom distrust the safety guarantees, noting that Israel has previously targeted al-Mawasi despite its status.
Only around 50,000 people have evacuated so far, according to UN estimates. In recent days, Israeli forces have targeted high-rise buildings in Gaza City, claiming they were used by Hamas. Residents reported receiving short evacuation warnings before the buildings were destroyed.
Amnesty International has condemned the mass displacement, calling it unlawful and part of what it describes as genocidal conditions in Gaza. The ongoing conflict has worsened the humanitarian situation, with famine conditions worsening. Five more people reportedly died of starvation in the past day, raising the death toll from hunger to 404.
International criticism of Israel’s actions is intensifying. European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen has called for sanctions and a partial suspension of trade with Israel, citing the use of famine as a weapon of war. However, EU consensus on such measures remains uncertain due to opposition from some member states.
