UK to Receive Critically Ill Children from Gaza for Medical Treatment

More than 100 critically ill and injured children in Gaza may soon receive medical care in the UK under a new government scheme, The Guardian reported. The initiative, announced on Sunday, will enable children in urgent need of treatment to access NHS services, with details expected within weeks.

Charities welcomed the decision but urged swift action, citing previous delays that resulted in deaths. Omar Din, co-founder of Project Pure Hope (PPH), noted that some children on evacuation lists had died before approval was granted. His charity has privately brought three children to the UK this year and developed a model for the new government-led effort.

The announcement comes amid a worsening humanitarian crisis in Gaza, where more than 50,000 people have died since October 7, and medical evacuations remain limited. The World Health Organization estimates 12,500 patients in Gaza require evacuation.

Charities including PPH and Children Not Numbers say around 100 children are ready to travel, with documentation awaiting final clearance. CNN stated that 71 children have died since calls for UK intervention began last November. A cross-government taskforce has been established to coordinate the scheme, with the Foreign Office confirming efforts are underway to implement it urgently.
