Over 100 Killed in Gaza While Seeking Food, UN Reports

A UN official on Friday expressed grave concerns regarding the escalating number of civilian deaths and injuries in the Gaza Strip, where people are being killed while attempting to secure basic food supplies, Anadolu Agency reported. According to Farhan Haq, deputy spokesman for the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), over 100 individuals have been killed in the past two days alone, with hundreds more injured. These casualties occurred along food convoy routes or near Israeli militarized distribution hubs.
OCHA underscored that civilians should not be forced to risk their lives for food and must always be protected. The agency stressed the necessity of facilitating community-level aid delivery without obstruction. The ongoing scarcity of essential goods has exacerbated the humanitarian crisis, which the UN states can only be resolved by an unrestricted flow of aid into Gaza.
The UN team continues to encounter “impediments and danger” along routes designated by Israeli authorities, which are frequently described as insufficient, hazardous, congested, or impassable. Since October 7, 2023, the Israeli army has maintained an offensive on Gaza, resulting in over 60,300 Palestinian deaths, predominantly women and children, and causing widespread destruction and severe food shortages.
