UN Hosts High-Level Conference on Two-State Solution Amid Escalating Tensions
…………………….
A high-level international conference on the peaceful resolution of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and the implementation of the two-state solution opened Monday at the United Nations headquarters, co-sponsored by France and Saudi Arabia. UN Secretary-General António Guterres warned in his opening remarks that the region has reached “a turning point,” with the two-state solution now “more distant than ever.”
Emphasizing that the conflict remains solvable, Guterres stressed the need for political will and courageous leadership, calling the conference “a rare and essential opportunity” to make tangible progress. He urged the gathering to serve as a decisive moment to advance toward ending the occupation and realizing the shared goal of a viable two-state solution.
Palestinian Prime Minister Mohammad Mustafa said the conference sends a clear message to the Palestinian people that “the world stands with us in our pursuit of life, freedom, and dignity,” and expressed willingness to invite regional and international forces to aid in security and stabilization.
French Minister of Europe and Foreign Affairs Jean-Noël Barrot stated that the core aim of the conference is to reaffirm that “peace is possible,” adding that over 120 countries are participating and are expected to adopt a joint post-war vision for Gaza.
Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud emphasized the broad international consensus on the need to implement the two-state solution based on UN resolutions and the “land for peace” principle. He underscored the urgency of ending the conflict and establishing a sovereign Palestinian state to achieve lasting peace and security for all peoples in the region.
