Over 60 European Parliament Members Call for Emergency Meeting to Demand Action Against Israel

More than 60 Members of the European Parliament (MEPs) have called for an urgent meeting to push for measures against Israel, sending a letter to EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas on Thursday, Anadolu Agency reported. Belgian MEP Marc Botenga from the Left group announced on X that they requested an immediate convening of the EU Foreign Affairs Council to address the situation.
In their letter, the MEPs expressed deep concern over the severe humanitarian crisis in Gaza and ongoing Israeli attacks on aid distribution points, which have resulted in over 1,000 deaths. They criticized the recent EU-Israel aid agreement as ineffective, pointing out that while children are dying from starvation, the EU’s response has been limited to weak statements without concrete action.
The lawmakers warned that history will judge the EU harshly for its silence and complicity amid the suffering in Gaza. They urged the adoption of comprehensive sanctions against Israel, sanctions targeting the Gaza Humanitarian Foundation and its members, a review of the EU-Israel Association Agreement, and lobbying for a two-way arms embargo by member states.
“Every day without action means more Palestinians in Gaza face starvation or death. Immediate steps are essential,” the MEPs emphasized.
