Gaza Faces Imminent Famine as Child Displacements Surge in West Bank

The UN agency for Palestinian refugees (UNRWA) reported Wednesday that people in Gaza, including their own staff, are collapsing from starvation, and children are dying from severe malnutrition, Anadolu Agency reported. UNRWA stated that thousands of its aid trucks, containing vital supplies, have been banned from entering Gaza by Israeli authorities since March. Gaza’s Health Ministry announced that the death toll from famine and malnutrition since October 2023 has risen to 101, including 80 children. The Government Media Office in Gaza warned on Sunday of “mass death” after over 140 consecutive days of border closures and stalled ceasefire efforts.

Compounding the humanitarian crisis, a new report by Save the Children reveals that over 600 Palestinian children were displaced by Israeli home demolitions in the West Bank during the first half of 2025 – the highest number on record. According to UN OCHA data, over 1,200 Palestinians, including 607 children, were displaced in the West Bank and East Jerusalem during this period. Since the Gaza war began, over 2,850 children have been affected by intensified demolitions and displacements. Overall, more than 10,300 children in the West Bank have been displaced since 2009 due to home demolitions.

International agencies are urgently calling for increased humanitarian aid and long-term political solutions to protect vulnerable Palestinian communities, prevent further displacement, and alleviate widespread suffering.
