Massive Gathering Marks Bibi Ka Alam Procession in Hyderabad
————————–
Hyderabad witnessed a large turnout of Shia mourners participating in the Ashura procession to commemorate the martyrdom anniversary of Imam Hussain (peace be upon him), the grandson of Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him and his pure family), on the 10th day of Muharram, The Siasat Daily reported.
The procession featured the revered ‘Bibi ka Alam,’ believed to hold a piece of wooden plank used for the final ablution of Prophet Muhammad’s daughter, Bibi Fatima Zehra (peace be upon her), installed over 430 years ago during the Qutub Shahi dynasty. This sacred relic was carried atop a decorated elephant named Laxmi, brought from Karnataka, marking her first participation in the event.
Starting from Bibi Ka Alawa, the procession moved through key locations including Sheikh Faiz Kaman, Yakutpura Darwaza, Etebar Chowk, Charminar, Gulzar Houz, Penjeshah, Mani Mir Alam, Purani Haveli, and Darulshifa.
Amid chants of ‘Ya Hussain’ and recitations of elegies and lamentation poems, many barefoot youths performed self-flagellation using knives, chains, and sharp objects to express their grief and solidarity with the martyrs. Others were seen weeping and beating their chests.
To maintain order, Hyderabad city police deployed 3,000 officers and utilized six drones to monitor the procession, with a special team overseeing the event from the Integrated Command and Control Centre.
