Hopes Rise for Gaza Truce as Trump Says Israel Accepts Ceasefire Terms
…………………….
US President Donald Trump has said Israel has agreed to the “necessary conditions” for a proposed 60-day ceasefire in Gaza, urging Hamas to accept the deal to end the war. Trump, writing on Truth Social, credited Qatar and Egypt with mediating the plan but offered few details.
Israel has not formally confirmed Trump’s claim, though Foreign Minister Gideon Sa’ar said there is broad government support for a framework to secure the release of hostages held by Hamas. Hamas officials say they are ready for an agreement if it guarantees a complete end to the war and includes an Israeli troop withdrawal during the truce.
The conflict, which began on October 7, 2023, has killed over 56,000 Palestinians. Ongoing Israeli airstrikes have destroyed homes, hospitals, schools, and other infrastructure, deepening Gaza’s humanitarian crisis. Mediators and aid groups stress that any ceasefire must allow large-scale humanitarian aid into Gaza, where deadly attacks have continued despite past ceasefire attempts.
