WCK Resumes Cooking in Gaza After 12-Week Aid Halt
………………….
For the first time in over 12 weeks, World Central Kitchen (WCK) has resumed cooking operations in Gaza after receiving an aid shipment, allowing teams to begin preparing hot meals for displaced Palestinians, the organization said on its official website. WCK reported cooking nearly 10,000 meals on the first day, focusing on carb-rich dishes like pasta and potato stews to address severe hunger.
WCK had suspended operations on May 7 due to a complete depletion of food supplies, halting services from its large-scale kitchens and mobile bakery. This disruption cut off a critical food source for thousands facing dire humanitarian conditions.
While the recent delivery marks a significant milestone, WCK warned that prolonged hunger has lasting physical and psychological effects.
The group stressed the need for sustained and consistent humanitarian access to continue safely feeding communities. Since launching its Gaza response in October 2023, WCK has served over 133 million meals. The ongoing war has claimed the lives of more than 56,000 Palestinians.
