US ambassador suggests Muslim countries should give up land for Palestinian state, criticizes sanctions on Israeli ministers

The US ambassador to Israel, Mike Huckabee, has suggested that Muslim-majority countries should give up land to establish a future Palestinian state, arguing they control vastly more territory than Israel. In a BBC interview, Huckabee questioned why a Palestinian state must be created in the West Bank, calling the two-state solution “an aspirational goal” and indicating that the US is moving away from pursuing Palestinian statehood.
Huckabee also condemned recent sanctions by the UK, Australia, and other US allies on two far-right Israeli ministers—Itamar Ben-Gvir and Bezalel Smotrich—for inciting violence against Palestinians. He called the sanctions a “shocking decision” and defended the ministers, saying they had not committed any crimes.
The State Department later clarified that Huckabee’s views are his own and not representative of official US policy, which remains set by the president. Meanwhile, diplomatic efforts to revive talks on Palestinian statehood are set to continue at a UN conference later this month.
