Press Briefing by UN Women on Gaza Ceasefire Collapse

Maryse Guimond, UN Women Special Representative in Palestine, addressed the catastrophic impact of the Gaza ceasefire’s end on women and girls during a briefing from Jerusalem, Reliefweb.com reported.

From March 18 to 25, 830 people were killed, including 174 women and 322 children, with 1,787 injured. Guimond highlighted that women and children represent nearly 60% of the casualties, emphasizing the indiscriminate violence they face. This represents an average of 21 women and over 40 children killed daily, with women and children constituting nearly 60% of the casualties.

Since March 2, humanitarian aid has been suspended, and Israeli bombardments resumed on March 18, further endangering lives. Over 50,000 people have been killed and more than 110,000 injured in 539 days of conflict. Guimond emphasized the urgent need to uphold international humanitarian law and protect the rights of women and girls in Gaza, calling for an immediate end to hostilities and unimpeded humanitarian access.
