Gaza’s Women Face Devastating Impact of Ongoing Conflict: Over 2,000 Left Disabled

On International Women’s Day, the Gaza government reported that over 2,000 women and girls have been left permanently disabled due to the ongoing conflict, which has claimed the lives of more than 12,000 women, Anadolu Agency reported. Salama Maarouf, head of the Gaza government’s media office, highlighted the irreversible damage inflicted by the Israeli military campaign, stating that many women suffer from amputations and contagious diseases, with countless others tortured in detention.
The humanitarian crisis has left 13,901 women widowed and 50,000 pregnant women mourning the loss of their babies under dire conditions. The ongoing siege has exacerbated hunger and dehydration among the population.
Human Rights Watch estimates that around 70% of the fatalities are women and children, with significant injuries reported among this demographic. Despite a ceasefire established on January 19, the toll of the conflict continues to weigh heavily on Gaza’s women, raising urgent questions about the role of the international community in addressing their plight.
