First Shipment of Mobile Homes Heads to Gaza Under Ceasefire Deal

The first shipment of mobile homes departed from Egypt on Thursday, bound for the Gaza Strip as part of a ceasefire agreement with Israel, Anadolu Agency reported citing Egyptian media. Five trucks carrying 15 mobile homes and a bulldozer moved from the Rafah crossing to the Kerem Shalom terminal, where they will be allowed into Gaza. Egyptian television channel Al-Qahera News aired footage of the convoy en route.

The delivery comes after weeks of delays, during which Israel reportedly refused to permit mobile homes into Gaza to shelter displaced Palestinians amid harsh winter conditions. Mediators intervened to enforce the ceasefire deal, which includes provisions for humanitarian aid.

The ceasefire, which took effect last month, paused Israel’s military campaign in Gaza that has killed nearly 48,300 Palestinians and devastated the enclave. Israel also faces a genocide case at the International Court of Justice and arrest warrants from the International Criminal Court for its leaders over alleged war crimes. Palestinian authorities in Gaza have yet to confirm the shipment’s arrival.
