UN Accuses Israel of Severe Violations of Children’s Rights in Gaza

A UN committee has condemned Israel for “severe” breaches of the Convention on the Rights of the Child amid its military campaign in Gaza, which began on October 7, TRTWorld revealed today.

According to Palestinian health authorities, at least 11,355 children have been killed, contributing to a total death toll exceeding 41,000. Bragi Gudbrandsson, Vice Chair of the committee, described the situation as “historically unique” and “extremely grave,” highlighting the catastrophic impact on children.

Israel’s representatives argued that the treaty does not apply to Gaza or the West Bank, asserting their commitment to international humanitarian law. The UN Committee, which monitors compliance with the 1989 treaty, emphasized that such massive violations are rarely seen in history, marking a dark chapter for children’s rights in conflict zones.
