UN General Assembly Calls for End to Israeli Occupation Within 12 Months
The UN General Assembly has adopted a resolution calling for an end to Israel’s “unlawful” occupation of Palestinian territories within 12 months, Anadolu Agency reported yesterday.
The resolution, led by Palestine and co-sponsored by Türkiye and over 50 member states, received 124 votes in favor, with 14 against and 43 abstentions. It emphasizes that the occupation is illegal under international law, referencing decisions from the International Court of Justice and the UN Security Council.
The resolution also highlights that Israeli settlements violate international law and affirms the Palestinian people’s right to self-determination. It reiterates that the issue of Palestine remains a permanent responsibility of the UN until resolved in accordance with international law. Additionally, it calls on UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres to report on the resolution’s implementation within three months.
