UN: Malnutrition Cases Among Children in Gaza Surge Over 300%
The UN reported a staggering 300% increase in malnutrition cases among children in northern Gaza, highlighting the worsening humanitarian crisis, Anadolu Agency reported today.
In July, over 650 cases of acute malnutrition were diagnosed, a sharp rise from 145 cases in May. UN deputy spokesman Farhan Haq attributed this alarming trend to access constraints, supply shortages, and deteriorating sanitation conditions.
The ongoing Israeli bombardment continues to inflict casualties and displace civilians, with recent attacks on schools sheltering displaced families. Haq emphasized the urgent need for all parties to adhere to international humanitarian law to protect civilians.
Additionally, a UN analysis revealed that 63% of structures in Gaza had been damaged as of last month. Humanitarian partners are struggling to provide essential supplies, including clean water and fresh produce, amidst escalating violence and disease. The situation remains critical, demanding immediate international attention and action.
