2M Gaza Civilians Faces Food Crisis as Israeli Offensive Continues

The World Food Programme (WFP) warns that two million Gazans are struggling with food insecurity due to the ongoing Israeli assault on the territory, Anadolu Agency reported yesterday.

The WFP cites limited access for aid agencies and the closure of the Kerem Shalom crossing as major obstacles to delivering vital supplies. A video released by the WFP shows its efforts to prepare food parcels for distribution to vulnerable families in Gaza.

This warning follows concerns raised by other international organizations about the risk of famine in Gaza.  The capture of the Rafah crossing, a key route for humanitarian aid, by Israel in early May has significantly hindered the flow of aid.

The Israeli offensive, launched in October 2023, has drawn international condemnation. The UN Security Council has demanded an immediate ceasefire, while the International Court of Justice recently ordered Israel to halt its military operations in Rafah.

Local health authorities report over 38,000 Palestinians killed, mostly civilians, and over 87,000 injured. With vast areas of Gaza in ruins and basic necessities in short supply, the humanitarian crisis continues to deepen.
