UN Warns of Deteriorating Security Situation in Rafah Amid Israeli Offensive

The UN has issued grave warnings on Monday about the worsening security conditions in Gaza, particularly in the city of Rafah, amid Israel’s ongoing military operations, Anadolu Agency reported today.

Tor Wennesland, the UN Special Coordinator for the Middle East Peace Process, expressed deep concern for the safety of civilians and hostages in Rafah, stating the situation is “becoming increasingly desperate and dangerous.”

“The so-called expanded humanitarian area in al-Mawasi lacks adequate shelter, food, water and sewage infrastructure,” Wennesland added.

Edem Wosornu of the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs warned that 75% of Gaza’s population has been forcibly displaced, and the Rafah ground incursion is hindering humanitarian aid efforts.

The UN officials called for an immediate ceasefire and protection of civilians to stem the deepening crisis in Gaza, urging all parties to immediately resume peace talks.
