UN Security Council passes resolution urging immediate Gaza ceasefire
The United Nations Security Council has demanded an immediate ceasefire between Israel and Hamas in Gaza, with the US abstaining from the vote, Al Jazeera reported.
The resolution, proposed by 10 elected members, was supported by 14 council members, the news agency added.
It said the UN resolution also calls for the release of all hostages taken in Hamas-led attack on southern Israel on October 7.
The US, previously blocking resolutions pressuring Israel, has shown frustration over civilian casualties and UN warnings of famine in Gaza.
