WHO chief voices grave concern over ‘future of a generation’ as Gaza famine looms

The head of the World Health Organization (WHO) stated that only expanding land crossings for aid deliveries into Gaza could help prevent famine in the densely populated Palestinian enclave, Al Jazeera reported.

WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus emphasized that children are dying from malnutrition, diseases, and a lack of adequate water and sanitation, putting the future of an entire generation at serious risk.

Countries like Jordan and the United States have been air-dropping aid along the besieged Gaza Strip’s coastline, but this method has proven costly and ineffective.

Meanwhile, Israel continues to block most aid trucks from entering Gaza by land since the offensive began on October 7, allowing only a small amount of aid to trickle in from Egypt at the Rafah crossing and Israel’s Karem Abu Salem crossing.
