Over 80% of Gaza population face lack of safe, clean water: UN
The UN reported that over 80% of households in Gaza lack safe and clean water, highlighting the dire situation in the area, Anadolu Agency reported.
The UN team working on water and sanitation hygiene in Gaza described extremely challenging conditions and high levels of displacement due to overcrowding in shelters, the article added.
The UN officials mentioned that 340 people are sharing a single toilet and there is one shower for roughly 1,300 people on average.
UNICEF has been providing fuel to operate public and private water wells and desalination plants, as well as delivering emergency kits for over half a million people and newborn kits for 8,700 newborns.
Israel’s blockade has left the population on the verge of starvation, with 85% of Gaza’s population internally displaced and acute shortages of food, clean water, and medicine.
The International Court of Justice has accused Israel of genocide and ordered them to stop genocidal acts and ensure humanitarian assistance is provided to civilians in Gaza.
