Millions Join Ashura Processions Across More Than 100 Cities in Nigeria

Nigeria witnessed large-scale Ashura commemorations as followers of Ahlulbayt, peace be upon them, organized mourning processions in more than 100 cities across the country to mark the martyrdom of Imam Hussein, peace be upon him, his family, and his companions in the tragedy of Karbala.

According to a statement issued on the occasion, the processions drew massive participation estimated in the millions, with men, women, children, youth, and elderly mourners taking part in the ceremonies.

Participants expressed their grief over the tragedy of Imam Hussein, peace be upon him, through Husseini chants, elegies, and poems recalling the events of Karbala.

Mourners raised banners bearing the slogan “Labbayk Ya Hussein,” reaffirming their commitment to the message of Imam Hussein, peace be upon him, and his reformist path. They also renewed their pledge to uphold the values embodied by his eternal uprising, foremost among them supporting truth, confronting oppression, and defending human dignity.

The large processions reflected the wide presence of Husseini rituals in Nigeria and the continued observance of Ashura across various cities and states, highlighting the deep connection of millions of devotees to Imam Hussein, peace be upon him, and his universal message.
