Twenty Killed, Including Soldiers, in Armed Attack on Central Nigerian Village

At least 20 people, including soldiers, were killed in an armed attack on a village in Plateau State, local development organization Kanam Development Association (KADA) reported. The incident, attributed to armed gangs operating in the region, occurred on Friday when attackers ambushed a routine military patrol.
According to KADA, the victims included twelve security personnel and eight local residents who had joined the soldiers to defend their communities. The organization described the civilians as “brave defenders who paid the ultimate price while performing their duty.”
Following the ambush, the attackers reportedly raided a nearby village, looting property and stealing livestock, exacerbating the hardship faced by rural communities in the area.
Plateau State has experienced repeated attacks and mass kidnappings in recent years, carried out by local gangs seeking ransom and plundering villages.
Nigeria, Africa’s most populous country, continues to face growing security challenges, as armed groups and extremist organizations increase attacks, complicating efforts by the Nigerian military to contain armed insurgency and maintain stability.
