Deadly Attack in Nigeria’s Borno State Leaves at Least Nine Soldiers Killed

At least nine Nigerian soldiers were killed and several others wounded in an ambush on a military convoy in Borno State in northeastern Nigeria.
According to Shia Waves News Agency, citing TRE, the incident occurred when military vehicles traveling from Maiduguri to Damasak struck a landmine and were subsequently targeted by gunfire from militants.
Armed groups linked to Sunni extremist factions affiliated with ISIS, including Boko Haram’s ISWAP faction, are active in the region and have stepped up attacks on both military and civilian targets.
The attack underscores the continued severe insecurity in parts of northeastern Nigeria. The Nigerian military has not yet issued an official statement on the incident.
