Nine Nigerian Soldiers Killed in Landmine Attack in Borno State
…………..
At least nine Nigerian soldiers were killed and several others wounded after their military convoy struck a landmine and came under gunfire in Borno state in northeastern Nigeria, according to security sources, as reported by TRT World. The attack occurred near Bindundul village, an area known for militant activity linked to the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP).
A military source said the soldiers were traveling from Maiduguri to Damasak, the administrative centre of Mobbar Local Government Area, when the explosion took place on Sunday afternoon. The landmine destroyed an armoured vehicle, and the convoy was subsequently targeted by sporadic gunfire from militants operating in the area.
Nigeria’s northeast remains the country’s most volatile region, where ISWAP and Boko Haram have stepped up attacks on military targets and civilians in recent months. Security officials have warned that armed groups continue to exploit difficult terrain and limited access to launch ambushes, while authorities face mounting challenges in containing violence across multiple regions of the country.
