Armed assailants in central Nigeria have abducted 28 people, primarily women and children, while they were traveling to attend a Muslim religious ceremony. According to France 24 and a security report prepared for the United Nations, the incident occurred on the evening of December 21 near Zak village in the Bashar district of Plateau State.

According to the reports, gunmen pursued and intercepted the vehicle carrying the victims before forcing them into captivity. Local police have confirmed that an investigation into the kidnapping is currently underway. This latest abduction is part of a broader wave of mass kidnappings across Nigeria that has drawn significant international concern regarding the country’s deepening security crisis.

According to France 24, this incident follows a recent high-profile case where 130 previously abducted students were successfully released. However, the persistent targeting of civilians during religious and communal travel highlights the ongoing challenges faced by security forces in stabilizing the region.
