Boko Haram Kills Nearly 70 in Deadly Attack on Nigerian Village

The extremist Sunni militant group Boko Haram has carried out a deadly attack on the village of Dar al-Jamal in Borno State, northeast Nigeria, killing around 70 people, including seven soldiers.
According to Reuters, the assailants set fire to homes and opened fire indiscriminately on residents. Many of the victims were civilians who had only recently returned to the village after years of displacement caused by insurgent violence.
The assault underscores the ongoing threat posed by Boko Haram despite intensified counter-insurgency operations by the Nigerian army. While security forces have expanded their campaigns against the group, they have so far been unable to halt the wave of attacks that continue to devastate communities across Borno and neighboring states.
Boko Haram, which has waged an insurgency in Nigeria for more than a decade, is notorious for mass killings, abductions, and raids on villages, schools, and religious sites. The conflict has killed tens of thousands of people and displaced millions, creating one of the world’s most protracted humanitarian crises.
