Over 40 Missing After Boat Capsizes in Sokoto, Nigeria
……………..
More than 40 people went missing after a boat carrying 50 passengers to Goronyo market in northwest Sokoto State, Nigeria, capsized on Sunday, media outlets reported. Ten people have been rescued, according to Zubaidar Umar, head of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA).
NEMA confirmed it is working closely with local authorities and emergency responders in ongoing search and rescue operations to locate the missing passengers. The incident follows a similar tragedy three weeks ago in Niger State, where at least 13 people died and dozens went missing after a boat ferrying around 100 passengers overturned, highlighting persistent safety concerns in the country’s inland waterways.
