At Least 81 Killed in Suspected Boko Haram Attack in Nigeria
At least 81 people were killed in a brutal attack by suspected Boko Haram militants in Yobe State on Sunday, VOA reported.
Around 150 militants, armed with rifles and rocket-propelled grenades, targeted Mafa ward on over 50 motorcycles, leading to widespread destruction. Police spokesperson Abdulkarim Dungus stated that the assault appeared to be a revenge attack following the killing of two Boko Haram members by local vigilantes.
Many victims were buried by their families before soldiers arrived for evacuation. The attack has left numerous individuals missing, raising concerns about the safety of nearby villages.
Earlier on Friday, the extremist Sunni group had also martyred 3 Shia youth in the same region.
Boko Haram’s insurgency in northeastern Nigeria has claimed over 40,000 lives in the past 15 years, while central and northwestern regions face ongoing violence from criminal gangs.
