Thirteen people were killed and 20 others injured early Monday when a bus carrying mine workers crashed in Russia’s Yakutia region, officials confirmed. According to authorities, the driver lost control, causing the vehicle to veer off the road and plunge 25 meters into a ravine near the Denisovsky Mining and Processing Plant, which specializes in coal.

Images from the scene showed the overturned bus beside a muddy pool. A criminal investigation into suspected negligence has been launched. Industrial accidents remain frequent in Russia. Local authorities have declared Tuesday a day of mourning in memory of the victims.
