CAIR Urges Virginia School to Lift Suspension of Muslim Students
……..
The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), the nation’s largest Muslim civil rights and advocacy group, has called on Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology in Virginia to reverse the suspension of several Muslim Student Association (MSA) members, the advocacy group reported.
CAIR said the students were allegedly suspended over a lighthearted video skit promoting MSA events, claiming the school acted based on “racist tropes and stereotypes about Muslims and Arabs.” The organization argued that the disciplinary action, taken before a proper investigation, could violate federal anti-discrimination laws and First Amendment protections for free speech.
According to CAIR, other student groups, including Christian associations, have produced similar promotional videos without facing penalties. The group’s legal team has written to the school demanding an immediate review of the decision. CAIR’s latest civil rights report highlights a rise in Islamophobic incidents and viewpoint discrimination across the United States.
