From Church Bells to the Call to Prayer: The Story of a Priest Who Became a Muslim Preacher

The extraordinary story of David Kouassi, a former Christian priest who was once tasked with silencing the call to prayer (adhan) in Côte d’Ivoire, has become a powerful testament to spiritual conversion.
After a life-changing dream and a deep study of the Quran, he converted to Islam and is now an imam and preacher of the faith.
For years, David Kouassi studied at a Christian theological institute and was assigned to the city of Bouaké, a Muslim-majority area. His mission was to replace the adhan with the sound of church bells in an effort to convert Muslims to Christianity. However, he soon realized that the deep spiritual connection people had with the adhan was a major obstacle to his efforts.
One night, after a period of fasting, Kouassi had a profound dream. A man of light took a Bible from his hands and gave him a Quran, telling him that this was the truth he was meant to preach. This vision compelled him to study the Quran in depth, where he found a unique sense of peace. He began to question his previous beliefs and embarked on a personal quest for truth.
After months of reflection, David, along with his wife, converted to Islam, taking the name Ibrahim. Despite opposition from family and friends, this decision gave him a new sense of purpose. Today, Ibrahim Kouassi serves as the imam of the Arafat Mosque in Abidjan and has founded the “Mifakousi” organization to support new converts to Islam.
His life is considered a clear example of the power of faith and the truth of Islam, which influenced the heart of a person who was once trained to oppose it. He has now dedicated himself for decades to calling people to Islam and providing extensive services to new Muslim converts in Côte d’Ivoire.
