Four Migrants Die After Boat Sinks Off Greek Island of Lesbos

Four migrants have died after their boat sank near the Greek island of Lesbos, Greece’s coastguard said on Monday, according to Reuters. Seven others were rescued from the sea, while search efforts continue amid uncertainty over the total number of passengers.

This marks the second fatal migrant incident off Lesbos in October. The island, close to Turkey, was a key entry point during the 2015–16 migration crisis, when more than a million people fled conflict and poverty in the Middle East and Africa. Greece has since tightened migration rules as crossings rise again from Libya.
