Rohingya Crisis Deepens: Boat Departures Triple as Aid Funding Dries Up
———————————–
The humanitarian crisis facing Rohingya refugees in Bangladesh is deteriorating significantly, marked by a sharp increase in desperate sea crossings and urgent pleas for more international funding.

The UN World Food Program (WFP) and Bangladesh are actively seeking increased funding to maintain vital support for the nearly one million refugees sheltered in Cox’s Bazar, according to a report by Anadolu Agency (AA). Aid agencies face severe shortages, which directly impact the refugees’ ability to meet basic needs, including food security.

Simultaneously, the number of Rohingya refugees attempting to leave Bangladesh by boat has tripled in the first half of 2025 compared to the previous year, as reported by ReliefWeb. This dangerous surge includes at least 87 children who attempted the perilous sea journey.

The escalating migration, often involving unseaworthy vessels, reflects the worsening conditions and dwindling opportunities within the crowded camps. Aid organizations warn that without immediate, sustained financial support, the crisis will deepen, pushing more refugees toward dangerous attempts to seek safety and livelihood elsewhere.
