Rwanda Agrees to Accept 250 Migrants from US Under New Deal
………………….

Rwanda has agreed to take in up to 250 migrants from the United States under a new arrangement with Washington, The Guardian reported. Government spokesperson Yolande Makolo said Kigali would approve each case individually, citing the nation’s history of displacement as a reason for participation. Arrivals will receive accommodation, healthcare, and training, though no timeline for the transfers has been announced.

The deal follows similar US agreements with South Sudan and Eswatini as part of President Donald Trump’s efforts to expedite deportations to third countries when home nations refuse returns. Rights groups warn such transfers could violate international law if migrants face risks in receiving states.

Rwanda previously struck a controversial but now-cancelled asylum deal with the UK. While the country promotes its stability and infrastructure, its government faces criticism over human rights abuses, political repression, and involvement in eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo’s conflict.
