The Global Nonviolence Organization “Freemuslim” marked the International Day of Commemoration and Prevention of Genocide by calling for stronger global action to protect vulnerable populations and ensure accountability for mass atrocities. In a statement reported by Shia Waves Agency, the organization said remembrance of victims must be paired with concrete measures to prevent future crimes that constitute grave violations of international law.

The group noted that systematic violence amounting to crimes against humanity and genocide continues in several regions. It cited the recent conflict in Gaza as an example of large-scale destruction, high civilian casualties, and extensive damage to infrastructure.

The group urged an immediate halt to military operations, unrestricted entry of humanitarian aid, and protection of medical and rescue teams. It also called for international accountability mechanisms, including through the International Criminal Court and independent investigative bodies, as well as urgent reconstruction efforts that support the dignified return of displaced families.

The group additionally condemned targeted violence against Alawites, Druze, and other minority communities in Syria by extremist groups and warring factions, stressing the need to safeguard minorities, advance transitional justice, and prosecute perpetrators without exception.

Emphasizing the broader framework for genocide prevention, the group highlighted the importance of reinforcing international law, countering hate speech, strengthening early-warning mechanisms, and promoting nonviolence and diversity. It concluded that protecting threatened populations is a moral and legal obligation, warning that global inaction risks enabling further atrocities.
