UN Warns of “Dire” Global Humanitarian Funding Shortfall

UN Warns of “Dire” Global Humanitarian Funding Shortfall
—————————
According to a UN spokesperson, a significant global humanitarian funding shortfall has been reported for 2025, Xinhua reported. As of August 7, less than 17% of the required $46 billion has been received to meet global humanitarian needs.
This figure represents a 40% drop in funding compared to the same period in the previous year. Farhan Haq, the deputy spokesperson for the UN secretary-general, described the current funding landscape as “dire,” warning that this shortfall means millions of vulnerable people may not receive the aid they urgently need.
In an effort to address the deep funding cuts, the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) launched a global appeal in June. The appeal is focused on the most pressing needs outlined in the 2025 Global Humanitarian Overview, with the goal of helping 114 million people worldwide.
