Spanish Mosques Experience Rapid Five-Year Expansion
———————
The infrastructure for Islamic worship in Spain has grown dramatically, with the number of mosques and prayer centers doubling over the last five years. According to reports from IQNA and La Gaceta, there are now nearly 1,400 recognized Muslim prayer centers across the country, a significant increase from the 700 recorded five years ago.

According to the Union of Islamic Communities of Spain (UCIDE), the Muslim population has reached approximately 1.88 million. While the population is diverse, featuring significant Pakistani, Algerian, and Senegalese communities, those of Moroccan origin remain the dominant group.

The growth is most visible in regions like Melilla, Murcia, Valencia, and Andalusia. Iconic structures such as the M30 Mosque in Madrid represent this expanding urban presence. According to the Pew Research Center, this trend aligns with global data identifying Islam as the world’s fastest-growing religion, potentially becoming the largest faith by population by 2100.
