Muslims and Immigrants Play a Key Role in Spain’s Economy and Security, Government Report Says

The Spanish government has released a detailed report highlighting that Muslims and immigrants are not only well integrated into society but also make a significant contribution to the country’s economy and social security system.
According to Shia Waves Persian citing local media, the report directly challenges claims by far-right parties such as Vox and the People’s Party, which have intensified anti-immigrant and Islamophobic rhetoric in 2025, particularly online.
The findings show that immigrants contribute about 10 percent of Spain’s social security revenues while using only about 1 percent of its resources. Employment rates among immigrants are also higher than the national average, with strong representation in domestic work, hospitality, agriculture, and construction.
The report clarifies that immigrants do not receive special social benefits, as all assistance is tied to legal residency. It also addresses widespread misconceptions about Islam—particularly the false notion that Muslims seek to impose their religion on society—stating that Muslims are well integrated and law-abiding citizens.
Despite this, discrimination persists, especially in access to housing. Crime rates among Muslims are reportedly low, and the report underscores their positive role in maintaining social stability and security.
Through this publication, the Spanish government aims to promote a positive image of immigrants and counter rising Islamophobia and racism by emphasizing their economic and social contributions.
