A fire broke out at the historic mosque-turned-cathedral of Córdoba in southern Spain last night, a UNESCO World Heritage site with a history spanning over a thousand years.

According to reports, firefighters quickly responded to the incident and were able to contain the blaze, protecting the historic structure from significant damage. The mayor of Córdoba confirmed that the fire has been extinguished and emergency services would remain on-site overnight to ensure the area was secure.
