Report Warns of Rising Intimidation Against Mosques in the Netherlands
……………
A new report by the K9 mosque network shows a sharp rise in anti-mosque incidents in the Netherlands, with 369 cases recorded between 2015 and 2025, up from 192 in the previous decade, according to IQNA news agency. The findings include recent cases in The Hague, Waalwijk and Emmeloord, where mosque staff discovered a bag of torn Quran pages and reported receiving threatening phone calls.
K9 noted that incidents have grown more severe, shifting from verbal hostility to acts of intimidation involving dead animals, threatening letters and physical aggression. The organization documented cases ranging from stones thrown through windows to arson attempts and Molotov cocktails targeting mosque buildings.
Muslims make up about 5% of the Dutch population, and while the country maintains strong protections for religious freedom, mosque associations have long voiced concerns about ongoing harassment, vandalism and the influence of political rhetoric on social attitudes.
