Over 700 Mosques Across Germany Open Their Doors to Visitors
————————
More than 700 mosques across Germany opened their doors to visitors on October 3 as part of the annual “Open Mosque Day,” coinciding with German Unity Day. The initiative aims to introduce the public to Muslim religious life and promote dialogue and understanding among different communities.
Mosques participating in the event welcomed visitors from diverse religious and cultural backgrounds, offering them an opportunity to learn about mosque activities and gain a closer look at the religious, educational and social roles they play in Muslim communities across Germany.
The program included guided mosque tours, lectures, panel discussions, exhibitions and open meetings, as well as food and refreshments for visitors. Organizers said the activities are intended to encourage dialogue and personal interaction while addressing misconceptions and stereotypes about Islam and Muslims.
Open Mosque Day has been held in Germany since 1997, when it was launched by the Central Council of Muslims. The Coordination Council of Muslims has been responsible for organizing the event since 2007, turning it into an annual occasion for interaction between mosques and the wider German society.
This year’s activities highlighted mosques as part of Germany’s broader social infrastructure, emphasizing their roles beyond religious worship, including education, counseling, youth and family work, social and volunteer activities, and community dialogue.
The event also highlights the contributions of Muslims to public life in Germany and the role mosques can play in building connections and promoting mutual understanding and coexistence.
It should be mentioned that Open Mosque Day is held annually on October 3 alongside German Unity Day.
