German Parliament Revokes Law for Fast-Track Citizenship
————————————-
The German Parliament has revoked a law that was passed last year to facilitate the quick granting of German citizenship.
According to Agence France-Presse (AFP), the previous, short-lived regulation allowed immigrants who demonstrated successful integration into German society to receive citizenship after just three years of residence. This fast-track option was specifically designed to reward individuals who had quickly acquired the necessary language and professional skills.
However, other substantial reforms to the citizenship law remain in effect. These include the primary provision allowing immigrants to apply for citizenship after five years of residence (down from eight) and the introduction of dual citizenship for all. Immigrants can continue to pursue citizenship based on these new, remaining regulations.
