Germany Sees Sharp Decline in Asylum Applications Amid Migration Crackdown
……………..

Germany recorded a nearly 60% drop in asylum applications in August compared to the same month last year, as the government intensifies efforts to curb migration, media outlets reported.
According to the Interior Ministry, 7,803 first-time asylum applications were submitted in August 2025, down from 18,427 in August 2024.

The decline follows similar trends in previous months, with July figures also halving year-on-year. From January to July, Germany registered 70,011 applications, compared to 140,783 in the same period last year, according to data from the Federal Office for Migration and Refugees (BAMF).

Chancellor Friedrich Merz, who took office in May, has introduced a series of stricter immigration policies, including enhanced border controls, deportations to Afghanistan, and tighter rules on family reunification and citizenship.

Interior Minister Alexander Dobrindt credited the decline to these policy shifts, stating that the government’s focus will now turn to strengthening the European asylum system to further ease migration pressures.
